Summit County Youth and Family Services: Mountain Mentors
Mountain Mentors is a well-established community based mentoring program coordinated through the Summit County Department of Human Services. They match caring adult volunteers, who are at least 21 years of age, with youth ages 6-16 years old in a one-on-one mentoring relationship. Through this process the adults serve as both a friend and advocate for the young person with whom they are matched. They ask for a 6 month- 1 year commitment, with 8 hours each month, of our volunteers. Activities range from helping with schoolwork to going to the recreation center with their mentee. Program coordinators provide ongoing monthly match support for the family and mentor throughout their commitment. Mountain Mentors provides 4-6 monthly activities for youth, families and/or mentors to participate in. A monthly newsletter is sent out to communicate upcoming events. They provide a minimum of six community service activities and twelve educational/life skills activities for matches.
